How close is 'ok' for plug leads to manifold?
I have installed some new plug leads at the weekend on my '81 and routed the leads so they no longer go down the sides of the engine block and up. They now go down to the plugs. I have kept the leads as far away from the manifolds as possible, but they get close and sometimes touch the AIR tubes that come out of the manifold. Is this ok??? I did also get one of the boots touching the manifold and it melted it slightly ,but moved it and it seems ok now. How much heat can the actual leads themselves take? I guess they must be heat resistant.

If you get good wires (MSD type) close is ok. Cheapies like Accel will burn being close. Touching is a no-no. Hope this is whatcha needed.

MasterDave,
Thanks for the reply, the only place they are touching is the AIR tube 'trees' coming out the top of the manifold. I'm hoping this wont be a problem.

You don't want them to touch. You can buy little standoff thingies (technical term reserved for engineers) that will keep the wires spaced apart and away from heat. Look under SUMMIT or JEGS for them.
