Re: Advice on buying a 69 vette (lstill)
AC was one of my requirements as well. I have used it some, but have discovered I am a "windows down" guy when it comes to corvettes.
If the AC is an important feature for you then keep looking as you will always regret it; especially in Florida. BTW, that price seems reasonable as the 69 is among the most desirable C3s in my opinion.

Make sure it's matching numbers. This is easy to do for the engine block (which is the most important.) Just look at the front passenger side of the block, there's a pad with small numbers. It should match the VIN on the windshield post (in front of driver) or check the registration. Since it's an automatic it's more negotiable (M21 and M22 cars are more desirable than automatics and wide ratio m20 4spd cars.) It also depends on which 350 it is -- 300hp or 350hp.
If the car is an original color like Tuxedo Black, Monza Red, Lemans Blue, Daytona Yellow that's good. If it's Fathom Green or Maroon, that's bad. Orange is making a comeback -- it used to make the car worth 5% less (like Green or Maroon.) Most of the green and maroon cars have been repainted anyway (like my formerly Fathom Green/now Tuxedo Black '69.)
If he's asking $9K, and it's a 4spd 350hp match# coupe, that's reasonable -- Although, I'd definitely offer closer to $7,200. Make sure the things that need fixing are not huge expenses.

Larry 9K is a good price for an intact driver. If it is a matching numbers and has a decent paint, decent interior....it's a great deal. I have a 72 ...no air and don't miss it. I am in Central Florida. My tops stay int the closet. Tops off windows down is what a sports car is all about..... :steering:

First off, at $9k the condition of the frame and birdcage is much more important than "the numbers". If it's solid and there's no rust, you're ahead of the game. Check http://www.corvettefaq.com for buyers guide inspection info. If the car is solid mechanically and the paint is truly a 9, cosmetics an 8, $9k is a deal.
Now, on to the numbers. If it is an A/T then it has to be the 300hp base motor, assuming it was originally a small block car. Other numbers are secondary to the engine pad stamp, but don't let that be a deciding factor with this car at this price.

Re: Advice on buying a 69 vette (sb69coupe)
My 69 has air, but so far i havent used it. Doesnt work. I havent had a problem with the florida heat yet. Tops off and rear window help make it tolerable. Plus the top off is just so much cooler. Definately get more people looking with the tops off.

This doesn't sound bad per your description but I wouldn't consider a non AC car in any southern state. It may be OK for you but you will have a hard time finding future buyers at a price you will like.......

Re: Advice on buying a 69 vette (mstanton)
I would check the following items that are either expensive or hard to fix:
windhshield wipers
headlight operation
fiber optics on console
gages
rear wheel bearings
brake calipers
All these things can quickly make a $9K car a $15 car. Also, check for signs of damage. Look for things like one headlight canister new, new shims in the front end, one headlight bucket fiberglass instead of aluminum, etc. Also, as someone else said, check the radiator core support. That alone is $300 new.
Good luck.

But seriously, that's a really good price if it's as you describe. And keep in mind that sharks pull quite a premium in Florida. I wouldn't care about AC. From what I've heard, it doesn't work very well anyhow. One of the first things I did was to rip out my non-functional AC hardware. (that stuff is HEAVY and takes up a ton of room) Corvettes are meant to be driven with the windows/top down anyway.

Depends on the buyer. Myself for instance could careless for A/C. I much rather performance and less weight than a blvd. cruizer w/ A/C. Cars without power everything and A/C is geared toward performance drivers. I live 5 miles frokm the Gulf of Mexico I and could careless about A/C, so I removed mine. :D
