Default Heater Core

A friend wants me to remove his heater core in his 81. What kind of job is this going to be? Are there any special tools needed? Thanks for any help, I would hate to mess up someone elses vette. :U

Default Re: Heater Core (Richard Cooper)

Just did mine. It is not too bad. It is a lot of diassembly. There is one long stud on the upper left corner of the heater box with a nut on the other side under the hood which may not be obvious. The tubes on the new core will not fit well on the heater heater box frame so you will neet to bend them to fit and resolder them and pressure test the core. I also soldered a support between the tubes of copper wire to reduce stress on the joints when reinstalling the heater box. I used the high quality weather strip from Home Depot for the gaskets rather than the gasket kit. Here is a link to someone elses project.
