If the spacing of the bars are the same they will fit 68-77. They will need pins put on the next rack.

I have seen them sell for $100-250, if you have all 3 pieces. Both mounts and the strap.

Hope this helps.

Terry

I really need a set for my '77 rack. I'm in the Seattle WA area, so rain is always a real possibility, and I want to take my 7-yr old for a long Sunday cruise.

Please contact me.
Thanks,
Sadeeq

You will need a luggage rack with the pins to mount the brackets. The brackets themselves are one year only (77) and likely to be expensive. Scroll through the Parts for Sale forum. If memory serves, a pair of the brackets waas listed a while back.

I got mine through "Wilcox" and they have a good description of the mounting needs ect.. I don't have any pins and can't see where they would help.. I did "bypass" the buckle because when tight enough to hold it was TOO tight to loosen !!! Had "velcro" added full length of the overlapping strap and now can get gas with out using tools and bad words !!!

The carrier kit from GM and/or reproduction will fit any luggage rack 1968-1977.

Originally when you purchased this kit you got two brackets, a strap, two plastic clear tube covers, a set of screws and a set if spacers. The screws and spacers were included in this kit so that you could make any luggage rack from 1968-1976 work with the roof panel carriers. Were they needed? I don't think I've ever seen a luggage rack with them installed. I'll have to check but I believe I also have a copy of the original installation instructions.

I have a picture of the screws and spacers on a little write up I did about original luggage racks. Basically showing people how to tell an original rack from a reproduction by looking at it.

Not the best pic. Look closely and you can see the pins on the center rails.

77 V54 eight hole rack.

Here's the business end.

My first few times I added bungee cords, front to rear... You can easily see the tops tabs going through the slots in the brackets while driving.... If they are not moving the tops aren't moving.... I "hear" there is no movement up to 100 mph... I do check the tightness / security of the strap at stops but after two years have yet to find any slipage. The "hooks" on the outboard sides is very well made to conform to the tops outer edges...I did make sure the brackets are as far forward as possible. They are tucked as close to the halo overhang as the rack allows which might keep air from getting under their leading adges also....I also made marks with a Sharpie on the tops edges so I'm getting the strap in the same place everytime.
