Pot metal or cast aluminum? Does it matter? Was thinking of having it chromed.

My 72 looks like die cast pot metal center and both sides.

I have some damage on one of mine and was wondering if this damage can be fixed on these. I think chroming these would be a great idea. I just had the bumpers rechromed, this would make a nice compliment to the bumpers.

Great idea! I think it would look great, like an extension of the bumber and continuation of the side grills. Since it will be chrome, do what I just did. I made 4pcs of 2 1/2" steel U shapped extensions to go between the grill mount brackets (1/4-20 bolts) and the grill (standard U nut & screws). This pushed the grill out so it's even with the lower valance & bumper, not set way in and un-noticable. I don't need a front license plate (check your local law) so what's the sense of having a grill that's set back so far??? Yours would look GRRRRREAT chrome!!!! Think I'll do that next winter.

Looks good Len. Did you have yours rechromed also? I may wind up rechroming mine.

Pot metal can be fixed.
I have some special welding rod that works great. It's hard as hell to use but cheap and works with my torch :D
