Would 180 degree out of timing bend a pushrod on start up?
dist was 180 off on start up and then corrected. started fine after that, then about 20-30 seconds after engine started to make a loud tick or slight pop sound. Checked headers and noticed one port was not hot.then took off valve cover and noticed a bent pushrod. Any suggestions on what could have happened, or would the 180 degree off timing caused it? Thanks Jesse D

when the timing is 180* out, the distributor is firing the spark plug when the valves are open instead of when they are closed and on the compression stroke. I dont think that is enough to bend pushrods. Assuming your timing gears are aligned correctly, then maybe your valvetrain was just not adjusted properly prior to startup . Hopefully it was nothing to serious and you will have her going soon. biggjimm

Valves are not adjusted properly. I experienced this a few weeks ago. Replaced bent pushrod and readjusted the valves in the sequence as outlined in the service manual for my model year. Problem solved.
