Finally made some progress
Holidays are good for something, finally had time to do some major work on my car...it had been sitting for way too long with me onoly doing little things and waiting for the weather to clear up (and thus " wasting" my time here :) )
I still had to fix the birdcage so I got cracking. I trimmed a replacement section from a donor car to fit mine. It was an earlier car (pre 75) and there were actually some very slight differences in the birdcage. The profile of the lower runner is a tad different but nothing some welding can't fix.
Here's the before:
section cut out:
and after new section is welded in and painted with POR (man, my hands are stained AGAIN, will I ever learn to use gloves )
Then I decided it was time to start welding in the gussets I had fabricated too so.....

Re: Finally made some progress (Jughead)
and some more progress. Reinstalled the firewall using sika tack adhesive:
Also did some welding of holes in the frame that are not needed and installed the corner bracing for the frame horns.
here's one small hole already welded up, smoothed and painted (por, but it's temporary untill I sandblast it again and have it powdercoated)

Re: Finally made some progress (turtlevette)
the best is yet to come, I have plans for a full cage and the boxed front sections will be topped off with a thick plate that will support the front of the cage, then a support behind the a arm moutns triangulated into the birdcage and running into a cage inside the car. I may even chop off the spring pockets and notch the frame there so I can run coil overs that bolt to the engine suframe so I can use longer coil overs.....

TT, you do good work. Looks really nice. Almost looks like you should be ready to put the front end on sometime soon.
