Default 1972 Vette 454 , 4 speed transmission, I get a shudder after a while, Clutch replacement

1972 Corvette 454 , 4 speed transmission, I get a shudder after driving a while, Question? Answer: Sounds to me like the flywheel need to be re-surfaced. After a while, the face of the flywheel will get a glazed surface, and when it gets hot, it will cause the clutch to jump some. Your clutch itself is probably OK, but if you pull it all out, I would replace the clutch plate and throwout bearing.

If I decide to change the clutch, what are the steps please.?
Does the 454 Big Block enging have to come out? or can I just remove the 4 speed transmission? yeah I know it's not a small job either way. Let me know please, maybe I will do it in the winter.
Thanks
Vic

You might want to be sure your rear main seal is not leaking as that will cause an oil film (and shudder) on the clutch. I think it's easier to do a clutch job by pulling the trans, but if you do need a rear main seal as well, you might as well pull the motor instead.
