Default Tach cable question

My cable is finally broken, it broke about 4 to 6 inches from the distributer. My question can broken cable be extracted from the casing and new onw inserted or is a trip under the dash a must.
Yes I'm hoping not to go there ! :yesnod:
Thanks.....

I would replace both the cable and the housing. If you just decide to replace the cable I would atleast lubricate the housing. I've replaced mine and its not that big of a deal. All you need is a good flashlight and some patience. You will have to remove the panel that holds the headlight and wiper door switches under the steering column. If I remember correctly that tach cable is held to the tachometer by a metal tab. You have to push the tab towards the tachometer to release the cable.
