Anyone done a 3" or larger single on a factory single car?
I fear I may have to keep factory "configuration",
plus don't know of any mandrel bent true dual
conversions commercially available.
Has anyone seen or made up a 3" or larger single
to replace the factory single, like on an 81?
This would be on just a moderately warmed up
engine.
I've read on the Dynomax site that a large single
(size depending on the displacement and peak hp
of the particular engine) will produce more low and
mid range torque than typical duals (X pipes etc
notwithstanding).
I haven't looked all that closely yet, but from pictures
I've seen, it doesn't look like fabricating a large dia
single would be all that difficult - the one limiting
factor may be to find a sufficiently free flowing large
diameter cat.
Any experience or ideas / thoughts?
Thanks!

the only thing I see is that with a 3" pipe, you might have problems bottoming out the car and tearing up the exhaust

actually it would be pretty easy. :yesnod: summit racing sells a custom "y" pipe and if i am not mistaken, 82-92 camaros had a 3 inch in/out cat. any competent shadetree mechanic could build their own exhaust in about a day with these components. it took me about 4 hours on my '88 iroc.
