Cowl Induction Is Working!
I finally got around to checking it out today. When I go W.O.T. the flap opens up just as it is supposed to do. Way Cool, even if it doesn't have much effect on output. I definitely need to upgrade the L-48 eventually. But man, does it ever sound cool when that air is sucking through the cowl!! By the way, where is that switch that controls the flap. Just curious.

That would make sense, but I was reading some old posts that talked about an electric switch under the gas pedal. I looked there and of course did not see one. Doesn't really matter unless it stops working someday.

I went out to the garage and started my car, let it warm up for a few minutes, and stepped on the gas all the way to the floor for about a second. I could see the thing opening (with the hood down) from the driver seat. It opens up RIGHT NOW when you floor it.
By the way, I was hearing it on the road last week. Sounds like you should be accelerating like a rocket, but you know...ahem.

Switch is on the upper part of the gas pedal. The brown/black wires that go from the body to the hood power the solenoid.
Of course, you could alwayd do what I did. Disconnect the wire. Remove the cover panel at the top of the hood (when open) and remove the door. Now you have cowl induction 100% of the time. :auto:

Steveis right. The same switch that makes the trans downshift opens the door. If you leavwe the hood open a little and with the key on without the motor running you can hear the door open/close when you step on the gas pedal. Idf you stick a flash light inside the cowl you can see the light when the door is open.

Like---What if there is a small fire that would normally be extinguished by a lack of air? Like a backfire through the carb.
Or--- What if my car became so fast that my heart couldn't take it? :lolg:

i dont think mine is working ,, but would like to get it going--- where do the wires run up to the cowl door? is the solenoid mounted in the hood by the cowl door? if so there must be wires running from the gas pedal switch to the solenoid(which im not seeing)

Re: Cowl Induction Is Working! (carl a)
The wires are obvious at the front of the hood on my '75 and the solenoid is under the cowl door. The problem with mine was the downshift switch needed major adjustment. What year is your car Carl? Year-to-year differences perhaps? With the key on (motor off) I can now hear the tranny click as well when the switch is activated. This must have something to do with downshifting...

I thought about reworking my cowl flap to working order, but I switched to a K&N open filter. So, down the road, I'd like to switch to a L88 hood and fab a Nascar type filter housing to surrond the K&N setup :smash:
