Default lower radiator hose replacement; 1973

I need to replace the lower hose on the wifes 1973 350 w/AC. The block-end is easy to get to, but the radiator-end is difficult just to see. I crawled underneath and it isn't much more accessable than from the top.

Any suggestions on how to make this a little easier?

.

The only way to do it is to remove the fan shroud. To bad that isn't as easy as it sounds. :smash:

I find it somewhat easier to slip on new hoses with a wee bit of lubercant (oil, vaseline, even cooking oil) on the nipple...or smear'd inside the hose end. Lower rad hose is a beatch. :smash:

:iagree: Both above suggestions are good. You can loosen the shroud and pull it back against the motor which may give you the room you need. Also, cut the old one off (slit it lengthwise where it contacts the radiator) instead of tring to pull it off the radiator. This is a pain of a job so do any "while your at its" while your in there How is the radiator itself? Now would be the time to change it if it is weeping.

I used the lube method and it took less than 5-minutes.
