Custom Wheels and Low Profile Tires
I have some questions regarding getting some custom wheels, maybe '19 or '20's on a C3.
Has anyone done this to a C3 here? If so, how did it look? Do the low profile tires give better handeling? Do they last longer?

Just my opinion, I think some tire is visually appealing. A 20" rim with a rubber band around it looks disproportional. Something reminiscent about wagon wheels.
Now I'm sure many will say that even 17's are born of the same sin, but I think they are about the max that looks "good" (in my view) on these cars.
But what do I know. :)
I believe Twin_Turbo has them.

jac1502 I understand that perspective of them growing on you. I don't think it is that they are not visually appealing, I think one's perceptions' expectations are violated by the disproportion. Bear with me...It is something like the movement methods used in movies that just make the hair raise on your back, so to speak. Where the movements are jerky and unfluid like (challenging the natural movement our perception has determined to be normal, or safe). On some base level we identify appealing proportions.
However, this is the CORVETTE forum, so get what "YOU" like and enjoy it. :)

High performance tires and long tread life is not used in the same sentence

JUSY MY 00.02, I really wanted to put HRE 540 in a 18 size,
but 18's just dont look rite, and damage alot more faster than a 17.
17 is the best bet for the C3 model, unless you do not plan to ride much.
you can see my ride on my cardomain. there's a thread started by..

Re: Custom Wheels and Low Profile Tires (MEGLADON)
I wish I could see what 18's look like on my 81. A lot of friends are encouraging me to do it, but I'm reluctant.

I think the later c3's do look pretty nice with 18+ wheels. GO FOR IT!!! Make yourself happy!

Re: Custom Wheels and Low Profile Tires (Rottenrob)
This shot is a photochopped big wheels look. The wheels are actually only 17's, but I enlarged them so that they look like 19's or 20's. Some on the forum have had positive comments, some have had less than positive comments (such as the "wagon wheels" comment). I personally think that somewhere between the 17's that are actually on it and 20" would look nice. I do agree that 20" would just be too big and look like some of the cars I see being driven around by the rap music, drug dealing types. I will probably sell my 17's (0 miles on them and the the tires if any takers for $1500) and go to a 19' rear & 18' front combo.

Here is a picture of a set of 20" Cabos superimposd on a C3.
Cabo Wheels, style 728 20x9 (w/ 5" deep lip!) 0mm offset - http://www.cabowheel.com
THis style has more metal toward the middle and should look less 'cartwheelish'.
Total conversion cost:
$1350 - wheels tires lugs locks shipped mounted (firststopwheels.com)
$ 30 - long rear leaf spring bolts to lower rear
$ 130 - rear adjustable camber struts
= $1510 (excluding labor to cut front springs)
