Brakes Groan to Full Stop
My brakes were a mess and made a groaning noise just before full stop. I replaced the rotors and rebuilt the calipers. The pads looked barely used and ok. Now it still groans just like before.

Are the pads soaked with brake fluid? Mine were and did the same thing. Got new organic pads and noise is gone. :seeya

Thanks! I have replaced just about everything else.
The pads do look a little oily. The rotors were original and the piston seals were leaking.

I looked and the calipers were leaking (again). I guess the brake fluid on the rotors had the same effect. Once I get the leak dried up. We will see if I need new pads. Thanks for the tip.

I tried new pads tonight. Noise still there but not as loud.
I just have to get the LF caliper leak stopped which may be behind the problem.

You might also need to resurface the rotors. See if you can lightly sand the surface of the new pads and get the brake fluid off, if not you will need to get new pads again. BUT you MUST stop the leak or you will never cure the brake groan. :seeya

Re: Brakes Groan to Full Stop (phxraptor)
Finally, finally, finally the noise is gone!!!!!!!!!!
I would kiss you if you were here!
I took the calipers apart and stopped the leak. Then sanded the old pads. This did nothing.
Next I went to Auto Zone and got 4 OEM pads for $10 total (lifetime warranty).
When I got those in, the noise stopped immediately. It's been like this for 2 years since I bought the car. These pads may not be good enough for LeMans, but they do the job.
I now have new master cylinder, front pads, rotors and re-built calipers. Boy is it ever nice to be able to stop.
Thanks again
Ray
