Default Tires...Size? brand?

I have a 79 in need of new tires, the dunlop qualifiers are starting to look like slicks. From viewing 2 other post this week the firehawk indy 500's seem like a good affordable choice. But at the moment I have 15 70 225 on the front and 15 60 255 in the back. Is there a better size or combo recommended, the previous owner claimed the 255 would rub in the front. I wanna get new tires soon and and would be grateful for any suggestions. I would like a performance tire but I do sometimes get stuck driving in the rain so it has to have moderate handling in wet conditions.

Just put 4 BFG's 255/60/15 on my 81. Do not rub in the front and rear clearance is ok too. Don't drive it in the rain so I don't care about the "wet traction" thing. :seeya

The 255s were an option (RPO QBS) in 1979. They fit.

Tirerack has the Dunlop GT Qualifiers for $55 a piece. I don't know anywhere else in the country you can get them cheaper. It cost me $250 shipped for four tires to my door. They are rated much quieter then a lot of the comparable tires and are T rated.

The dofuss who I bought my 72 from had P235-70-15's on it which rubbed on the back of the front fender liner in hard turns.

I am back to a stock F70/15 (215/70/15) and everything is cool.

The problem was that the guy kept the 70 series sidewall height. The sidewall number is a percentage of the width. With wider tires and the same aspect ratio, the tire would be taller. 255/60/R15's don't rub on my 69 in any position lock to lock.
