Looking for tires soon and would like to know the correct size for my 80. It has the stock wheels on it. On there now is P245 60 R15 . Thanks in advance.

P225/70R15 was the popular size....but they also had P225/60R15 ...

acording to the black book it is P225/70R15 for the white letter SBRand for white leather SBR P255/60R15 :chevy hope that helps

Although there were exceptions, understand that late-C3s with aluminum wheels came with 255/60R15, while Rally-wheel cars were equipped with 225/70R15s

My 81 came with aluminum wheels and 255/60/15's.

Glen, these cars came either way-you could have got P255/60R15 on either Rallys OR Aluminum Wheels Or visa versa, P225/70R15 on Rallys Or Aluminum Wheels. The P225/70R15 were Goodyear PolySteel radials, BLACKWALL or Raised White Letters OR the P255/60R15 which were Goodyear Eagle GT "Outline" White Letter tires.
If your car has the original left door info label, I believe it is the bottom OR next to bottom line which tells exactly what tires came on your car. This applies to '78-'82 Corvettes. :yesnod:

I had heard the 'wide-tire/aluminum wheel'-'skinny-tire/Rally wheel' story long ago, and never thought about it, until I got my '82, and other people 'confirmed' this to me, 'with exceptions'.
Lately, I have been told of MANY MORE 'exceptions', and now I believe it to be total BS...

Glen, I originally thought this too, but my old Yellow '80 was an original Aluminum Wheel/P225-70-15 tire car, plus I've judged fairly many original '80-'82s with any of the tires/wheel combos mentioned in my last post. Many of these were very low mile originals with THE ORIGINAL tires too :yesnod:

Well here's my input, for what it's worth. My door post sticker says 235 70R 15. She has the factory aluminum wheels on her now. Sweet rims...

Clearly this would be an one of thse red herrings we all would die to see and the fact that you have the tire certification to back it up. Can you do some photos?

Well here is where I have to eat crow as they say. I just went out to double check and it is 225 not 235. When I got the tires replaced a year ago, the technician went out and looked to see what size he needed to put on. I was replacing the 255 60's that were worn out. I told him I wanted to go back to factory sizes and he said "235 is what it shows". So that's what I got. They look great! Sorry for the misinfo.

So the tire technician stated "235" but he was wrong and you label shows 225 which is what came on it? Or, he stated 235, installed 235 but the label on the door shows 225?

Sorry if this caused confusion. The tech said he read 235 off the sticker. Obviously he misread it, because it DOES read 225 70R15.

Dk Met Grn 80 L82: Nice sig pic. Mine has been repainted (before I bought it) with the same green color. Originally 59 Frost Beige. Thinking of going with Z06 Electron Blue.

Here are some numbers for 1980 which were common for late C3s. Out of 40,614 corvettes produced, 26,208 had 225/70s, 13,140 had 255/60s. Total with aluminum wheels was 34,128. Based on those numbers I would say that most cars came with 225/70s on aluminum wheels.

My door sticker says P225/70R15 and mine came with the aluminum wheels. It currently has P245/60R15's on them. I'm considering going to the P255/60R15 when I'm ready for new tires if they fit. I like the looks of the bigger tires. :cool:
