Default VB&P - Spreader Bar Help

Today being the only nice day for awhile (lots of rain expected), I decided to install the spreader bar that I bought over winter. I removed both of the nuts for the upper A-arm pivot and couldn't get the spreader bar mount to slide on. Apparently, the holes in the mount are about 1/8" too close together. :banghead: I checked the other side and it was the same problem. I even tried the other mount, thinking that maybe I had a bad one. Is this another reason to love owning a 68, or are the vette gods just frowning apon me again?

The holes are a tight fit. I used a round file to remove some of the powder coating, and it fit right on. Still tight though.

you would think the manufacturer could get something that simple correct....might be booboo that slipped through QC though. Nothing a die grinder can't fix.

Hi

This is not a 68 only thingi.
This part of the VBP bar fitted well on my early 68 BB.

I just installed mine last sunday and i had exactly the problem but the car is 69. The second problem was the pushings did not fit between the ear of the driver side bracket. I had to used a bolt & nut that the same size of the ear spacing to spreaded them apart . A fifteen minutes project became an hour and at first i thought it was my car and me.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the aftermarket. Some assembly required. Batteries not included.

BTW, I had the same problem. A few minutes with a round file fixed it.

I must have gotten lucky when I did mine. It was a tight fit but everything went together. The bushings were a snug fit also, but there is no movement there so it really doesn't matter how snug. Man, I hate that. I wrote the article because it was easy for me and only took me about an hour even taking pics. Sorry to hear it has been such a bear. :banghead: You will get it though. Hang in there.
