Best Corvette Events - Please share your stories
Hi All,
I would be interested in hearing what corvette events you have really enjoyed in the past.
I am trying to get some ideas. Thanks!

I like to go mainly to gather parts. I have been to Carlisle, Bloomington, Knoxville, and Bowling Green shows. My observations are that 1) Bloomington was more fun at Bloomington than where it is now (St Charles). 2) Carlisle rocks! If you can't find it there, it may not be able to be found. 3) Knoxville is a pretty decent show.
4) Bowling Green is fun because of the 1/4 mi drag strip there with covered stands. I'll never forget around 1995 I went and was watching the cars run. Mostly C4s, some C3s. Big-blocks sound awesome with open headers/side pipes. A car would run and then line back up to run again. Most everybody running slicks and fancy wheels, most running high 11s or so. Up comes a red ZR1, factory sounding exhaust, stock wheels. No messing around, he drove up, little dry hop, and staged it. Then he proceeded to run 11.08 and parked it. Don't know what had been done under the hood, but with some slicks and exhaust it should have easily been 10s. If he is still out there-I'm still impressed!

Carlisle is a long way from Colorado, however it's the one to beat. I've been 14 years running. Parts, parts and more parts. I especially enjoy the parts cars that get "parted out" right in front of you! Gettysburg battlefield park is fairly close, awesome road trip! :flag

Laguna Seca at the Monterey Historics a couple years ago! I still need to post those pictures.
Corvette was the featured car that year to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
Imagine seeing over a dozen L-88 C3s comming down the straight away with open side pipes! It kind of makes your nipples hard!
The there were hundreds of corevttes in the parking lot- It was an awesome sight. In fact all of monterey was covered with Vettes.
It was amazing!

The best event I have been to was the Can-Am cruise. One of the C5 guys organized a weekend cruise from Windsor, Canade to Marietta, Ohio through the best roads I have been on in the Midwest. All the participants collected pledges that went towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It was a great time, and I was extremely proud that I hung with the new Vettes.

If you've never been to Carlisle in August you should do it sometime. Craig
Nothing beats ANY of the Carlisle events. The only thing better than a weekend of rummying for parts is taking a good crap.

From the sounds of the posts on this section (and some of the others) ... sounds like I need to plan a road trip to Carlisle. Also sounds like I need to plan ahead (by 6 + months) ... so maybe next year.

It depends on what you want to do. If you really crave the swap meet thing, go to Carlisle. I'm more into hanging out. So I arrange for a place in Philly and a place in Pittsburgh. I spend a night and a day in Philly, and a night and a day in Pitt. On my way from Philly, I hit Carlisle. I spend an afternoon, get my fill, and I'm on my way.
CorvetteForum Cruise In is a blast. You can enjoy some beers with a lot of good people, some racing, assembly plant tours, the museum. I went for 3 days, this past year, and don't regret it.
Beyond that, I suggest that any event can be a Corvette event, so long as you take your Vette or do it with like minded Vette people.

Not strictly a Corvette event but I went to an Open Road Race in West Texas a couple of years back and "worked" the course. I was positioned about a third of the way down the 60 mile course. First starts were the unlimiteds. Four of the six unlimiteds were Vettes. Hearing, seeing, feeling them blow by at about 205 was a unique experience.

Bloomington Gold...There is nothing like 2500 Corvettes on golf fairways. The swap area is good; auction is fun. I think it will be bettter than ever this year since there will be no conflict with the annniversary celebration. The drive out last year was real good (except for the wreck).

Jay M - I was there and we just never met. I was kind of hanging out with the bay area CF members.

The anual All Vette drags held at Sacramento Raceway are always a good time. About 200 racers and hundreds of show cars and the swap meet.
