PICS of DYNOMAX headers with MIG'd pipes....
Hi all,
Finally got some pictures on my web for your viewing. They are Dynomax 1 5/8" primary w/3" collector. I purchased a set of 2 1/2 pipes and only used the back half... they are flat where necessary for clearance. Enjoy!
As you can see... nice fit... Below pics are the Result of ThermoTek Brushed finished INSIDE and OUT....
The intermediate pipes are two 45* 2 1/2 mandrel bent that I cut and welded into place... not terribly difficult.... a little spatter but hey... it is my second time welding.
I hope these pics post correctly....

Super nice!!! Wish my Dynomax's looked that well still. I got the ceramic coated and they are already dull and rusty in spots. How much was that other coating?

Re: PICS of DYNOMAX headers with MIG'd pipes.... (mbeeman350)
The intake is an Edelbrock Performer intake http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/index.html (#2101)
The bell housing is painted cast blast gray (ZIP). I wanted it to match the transmission housing.
Thermal Tech Coatings are here in VA. I spoke with Buzz and he did a great job. It cost $225 to coat inside and outside of headers and he extrude honed them as well. They are super smooth inside and all rough edges are GONE…. 3 yr. warranty too!
Thermal Tech’s number is 804-453-0263
I purchased the mandrel 45* pipes at JCWhitney. A total of four were used. They are 2 ½ outside diameter with 5” center radius and 10” lengths on both sides… This link is for the ones I used. Although they are expanded at one end I didn’t need the slip fit.
http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/...X&appId=384175
Really easy to make and look trick… I will post the driver side build on shortly.
I think I will get the pipes coated as well b/c the MIG welds will surface rust. Should only cost about $40 for both inside and out!
Let me know if you need anymore info…

Anthony what are you using for mufflers and how do they connect? Were the offsets enough to align with the rear pipes or did you have to bend them at all?
Thanks,
Gary

Re: PICS of DYNOMAX headers with MIG'd pipes.... (gtr1999)
Hi Gary,
I am using Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. They were expanded at the pipe ends to 2 1/2 ID. The Secondary pipes are from ZIP at 2 1/2 and everything fits REAL nice. I will post some pics when I get home. I still have the manifold sections in the garage... just is case I want to remove the headers at some point... NOT!!!! :D

Fevre, what section needs to be added a straight length or bent? I've seen those in the Summit catalog too,Heddman makes them I believe.
Mr Gearhead, thanks for the info and please post more pictures when you can

Fevre-
These are great for hooking up headers to exhuast. The only reason why I fabricated my own was b/c these hang too low... atleast to me. The length of pipe right after the flange is kind of long. Thus, it follows the downward tilt of the headers. When you look at the car from the side, you can see the pipes. The ones I fab'd, I made an immediate upward turn to get the pipes as high as possible. The oil pan is closer to the ground. Again, these are a great buy at only $22. If you don't have access to a welder or just want a bolt on item... these are perfect! :steering:

I test fitted them but did not install them, decided to wait till I was ready to replace the whole system. I see what you mean about them hanging low but I believe Fauxrs used them and slightly moded them to fit. He would be able to give a better desc and prolly a pic of what needs to be done to use them. I'll have to try em again and take some pics, maybe this weekend.

Re: PICS of DYNOMAX headers with MIG'd pipes.... (gtr1999)
Gary.. here are some more pics of the set up.
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/ben...ewpics_001.jpg
At the collector flange, the pipes start turning up immediately for ground clearance.
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/ben...ewpics_002.jpg
The pipes get flat going under differential and then round out at mufflers!
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/ben...ewpics_003.jpg
Here are the 45* pipes that I bought from JCWhitney.... did not fab the dr side yet. I will take pics of this also...
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/ben...ewpics_004.jpg
soon I will be able to :auto: .... I hope!

Are you going to add a "H" pipe? Did you allow provisions in case you have to drop the exhaust?

Re: PICS of DYNOMAX headers with MIG'd pipes.... (Mr.Gearhead)
man, that looks beautiful! i have one question that i hope you can answer for me. i need to replace the cheap shorties i'm using on my car with a decent set of full length headers but ground clearance is a major issue. can you post a pic of the collector position relative to the oil pan in a horizontal shot? oh yeah, maybe a P/N for the headers you bought, too. i can't use alot of the multi-use headers on the market because i can't have anything hang down that low.
