No unique problems that I know of, just a good stout 427 motor with hydraulic lifters and a quadrajet carb. Go ahead and buy it!

Only problem I ever had was occasional knocking in the Texas heat in July because of the compression. Retard the timing a little or add some TEL or avgas, and that goes away. Fun as hell to drive, never had any reliability problems, completely bulletproof as far as I can tell.

Some authorities will tell you that the '69 427 was the best big block chevy ever built. Those are the authorities I like. :D

I love mine!! But in reality it is more of a "stationwagon" engine than a high performance bigblock. :) MJ

I love my L36. It's plenty fast for me. A real blast when you stomp on the pedal.

Station Wagon?!

MJ, you got some 'splainin' to do!

Actually, I guess compared to the L-88 or even the tripower cars, it's a little lethargic. But that's just compared to them. Still rated at 390 ponies (OK, OK, probably only really puts out 330 or 340, but still!!). An L-36 in the right tune will definitely snap your head back.

My '69 has the L-36 and 4 speed. I would like to rebuild it and add a little bigger cam and such, but, no matter how hard I run it, she just wont show any signs of needing a rebuild.

I run it pretty hard each time I take it out and often take it to the local track on Tests-n-Tune nights. She has over 130k miles on her and just keeps on running. She uses no oil, never smokes, still has great compression and runs as good as she did the day we got her in 1977.

Its kinda frustrating really. I 'm ready to rebuild her and beef her up a little, but how do you justify rebuilding a completly good big block that just won't give up?

Plus, with 460 ft. lbs. of torque, I guarantee that it will put a smile on you face each time you see the Mustangs grow smaller and smaller in you rearview mirror.

The L-36 was rated at 385 HP in the Chevy wagon but was essentially the same motor. Couldn't advertise a station wagon with more power than a Corvette could we????

That wouldn't be a biased observation wouldn't it? :D

God knows some the C2 guys think the '63-'67 Vettes are the only ones that matter. :yesnod:
