I bought one for my wife, household use, from Sears. I think it's called the Steam Shark. Yes, Shark. More than a coinincidence I think. That baby gets real hot! She's done a little damage around the house already, having removed some paint down to drywall. :D
I haven't used it extensively on the cars yet, but imagine that it'd work pretty good with a spray on degreaser. It creates a lot of very hot steam.

Can't speak to steam cleaning, but I had a 1000 psi electric pressure washer and I bought a 2500 psi gas one. It is a night and day difference. It has interchangable tips and with the strongest one it will really clean the material, the middle one seems adequate for most tasks. $300 at Lowes.

I used Marine Clean from the POR-15 people and a 1000 PSI pressure washer. If it is a one off then rent it. It took of 95% of the gunk. The rest had to be scraped and then balcsted of with the pressure washer again.
I just purchased a Karcher from AMAZON but it hasn't gopt here yet. It was $100 shipped and is good for 300PSI. Should be OK for new dirt but not for 30 year old grease.

Careful with those high pressure H2O washers, they can delaminate the fibreglass. Don't ask me how I know this, the crew cheif on our old T/A racer still brings up the unfortunate incident whenever we cross paths!

I would also like to clean the under carriage. I would stream over water pressure. Keep us posted if you find a good stream product. I may look at the Sears one.
