Need help with rear end ID code
I have a 3:08 rear that came out of a 71 automatic (I don't know if it was original). The code stamped on the case reads "OK2 52 ? 7E". I am not certain of the "K", it is only partially stamped. The number before the 7E must be a partial 1 or a 7.
Any ideas? Also, what is the spec for side yoke end play? Thanks

Re: Need help with rear end ID code (BBShark)
See if this helps any. The code on the bottom of my 71 Differential reads: AB W 089 E2. AB= 3.70:1, W=Warren MI plant, 089=julian date built (30 Mar), E= Eaton posi, 2=2nd shift. The E and 2 are sometimes transposed. 3.08 for 71 should be AW. No 71 corvette diff starts with O. All 70 diff are 3 letter codes that begin with a C. Take a look at the numbers again. sometimes they're really hard to read.

Re: Need help with rear end ID code (mstanton)
My rear end was in a 71 when I bought it but I don't know if thats the original. I cleaned the case a wire brushed the ID pad. I think it reads "OK 2 52 7 E 1". I will try to post pictures (1st time, wish me luck)!

Re: Need help with rear end ID code (7T3)
This has stumped me. Your code starts out right for a 3:08 Posi in a 78 vette. OK=3:08 Posi (78 vette), the 252 would be ok for the julian build date, but the rest of the characters dont seem to make sense. My source is corvette by the numbers, which is usually pretty decent with this stuff. If you find out please post it as im pretty curious about this.

Re: Need help with rear end ID code (deisenreich)
I have the rear opened up now and there are numbers stamped on the ring gear. Isn't there a date code on it as well? Also, isn't a 78 a 2 1/2 inch wide spring?
