Thanks, to who ever posted the white vinigar tip not too long ago!!!!
I remember reading a post about using white vinigar to derust parts not too long ago. So I took a rusted pedal assembly apart and let it soak in the vinigar, its been 1 week today.Just came in from the garage and couldnt beleive my eyes. After helping it out with a small parts brush, this peice is like it just came out of a blast cabinet. The liquid is black and the part is like new. The post said let it sit for a few weeks so I will let it soak longer. Thanks for the tip.

flush parts real well w/ water when you are done and then water flush it again, the vinegar is very acidic.
cider vinegar works the same. save the old vinegar & dump it on your weeds this summer.
I use that on frozen seat tracks. If you leave it soak long enough the tracks will slide by themselves without having to beat them w/ a mallet. Will work on any rusted part.

Vinegar also works great to prep plastic/vinyl parts prior to spray dyeing. Most interior plastic and vinyl parts have been saturated with Armor All. The silicone causes fish eyes when you spray. A good vinegar wash will remove the silicone and prevent fish eyes when you shoot your paint. Chuck

1 part vinegar to 3 parts water in a spray bottle is an excellent glass and chrome cleaner, too. Use old newspapers to wipe the vinegar off the glass instead of paper towels. Awesome stuff.

I'm not patient enough to wait a couple of weeks.
Phosphoric acid will do it over night. Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) will do it in about an hour or less. Both are available at the Ace hardware. When using Muiatic acid you have to neutralize the acid with baking soda disolved in water rinse it with plain water then spray it or dip it in phosphoric acid then rinse really good or it will begin to rerust pretty quickly. Also you need to wear gloves with both of these acids especially the Muriatic acid. Also the Muriatic acid will strip a part of paint if left soaking in it overnight, and never put an aluminum piece in it.

I've been using Phosporic Acid solutions with great overnight results.
For small parts, I warm the acid in a small plastic container with the microwave.
Don't microwave with your metal part in there !!
Plus, the phosphoric acid leaves a caoting of iron phosphate, which is a great
primer for any coating. Left exposed, it's supposed to give a year's protection.
I just cover it with POR15.
