Thinking of buying a Corvette

Thinking of buying a Corvette
Hi!
I'm new to this forum and appreciate any information. I'm looking at the possibility of buying a 1978/79 Corvette and very much like the Pace Cars. My question concerning these are that many of them have the decals on the doors. Are these easy to remove or will they damage the paint if removed?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Thinking of buying a Corvette (Baytraveler)
Welcome to the forum!
I bought my '69 in Nov. '02 for $16K. Probably have sunk another $10K into it since then. It can be money pit, depending on what you buy and what your goals are. But I don't regret anything. This car is a blast!
Take your time and do your research. Know what you're buying and how much it's worth. Get help from someone locally who can help you inspect the car before you buy it. It's really important to find an inspector who knows vintage Corvettes. There are typical places to check for wear and tear and rust. Don't just sign up the bubba from the corner gas station to look at the car.
A couple of books worth checking out:
Corvette Black Book, by Mike Antonick
Corvette Price Handbook, also by Mike Antonick
Good luck!

Re: Thinking of buying a Corvette (1FUNVET)
Thanks for the input and the welcome. I currently have a couple of British cars and am in the process of selling one of them. I have always liked Corvettes and thought it would be a fun change.

I think a hair drier will do the trick.

:iagree: But if the decals have been on there for a while the paint underneath may be darker then the rest of the car. I had this happen with a Firebird Formula a few years back...took off the Formula lettering on the doors and could still see where they were.

Sometimes pace cars fetch a little more money. If you're going to peel off the graphics anyway, you might save yourself some money by going with a non-pace 78 or 79.

:iagree: A '78 with the silver anniversary paint looks just as good as the pace car IMHO. It's just dark on the bottom and light on the top, while the pace car is dark on the top and light on the bottom. And you won't pay nearly the premium that most sellers want for a pace care.

If you are thinking of a C3; I think the 69 Vert is the most desireable car. The 78/79 models are sorta "out to lunch" in my opinion.

welcome to the Forum. If you want a pacecar, keep the graphics onboard. there are plenty of non-pace car vettes to be had if you don't. before you buy, tell us what you are looking for in the car. if you want a comfortable ride, you might want a c-4 or c-5 and not a shark. ditto for awesome handling. I bought mine cause i love the looks, but if I had the knowledge I have now, I would have held out for a pre-73 vert.
