What distrtbutor to replace my points distributor....?
My question is two fold. One, will I see a big difference in performace by replacing my points dist with a modern one? Two, which one would you recommend? I have a 74 L-82 with a Lars points tach drive dist. in the car now. I am running 10-1 pistons, performer intake, headers and a Lars Q-jet. It seems to run well and starts great. I do not think that I have room for a HEI dist. Cost is also an issue to some degree. Any ideas welcome....

I've got the Mallory conversion kit on mine, and it is as trouble-free and reliable as can be. No more points to fuss with weekly anymore!!
I thought about the MSD, Pertronix, and the Mallory, but I hate MSD for general principles, and the Pertronix seemed as good, but I've had several other Mallory components, and it just seemed natural to continue with the good fortune I've had.
hope this helps,
Paul
P.S. the Mallory part I have is: P/N: 501

If your distributor is in good condition, there is no real incentive to replace the points (other than to do away with having to adjust and replace them.) A good alternative is to have your distributor converted to HEI. http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com Can convert your tach drive distributor to modern HEI without giving up stock looks.
