8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE

Just had the shop remove my "H" pipe.....and install an "X" pipe.
The "X" pipe crosses just under the rear end pumpkin about one inch below.
Will heat at this junction cause problems with the rear end fluid?
Should I add a heat blanket or shield?

X-pipe down by the diff? I thought it was better to get the X or H pipe as close to the exhaust manifolds as possible for maximum benefit...
Still researching this as I'm planning my exhaust upgrades for this year....so I may be wrong. :confused:

From what I have read, you are supposed to try and get an H or X pipe as close to the manifolds or headers as possible, not an easy task on a Vette. I don't know about heat problems for the differential, someone else will have to advise on that. I went with a straight dual set-up on my '80 without any kind of H or X pipe and have been very happy with the results, for what its worth.

Cappy you live over there in the nice thick ocean air where it never gets to hot or you have to drive too far. I put my three inch Cross pipe right near the pumpkin where the pipes are closest together.

I didn't worry about it. If your worried maybe get a package of thermotech header rap and bundle it up.

The placement of the cross overs or x-pipes is all theory based on exhaust pressure waves. To get the highest TQ would take hours on rear wheel dynos on a specific motor combination. People that trust everything they read or hear need help! :eek:

IMO - Something is always better than nothing.

The installer told me it was about the only spot available where it would work well for what I was trying to accomplish. I wanted the exhaust pipes moved up as tight as possible without touching the frame or body. My car is very low to the ground. Every now and then "Ching"...... pipes hit the pavement. The new "X" pipe sounds very radical. Now the car has a radical sound at idle.....then as the RPM's come up it starts to sound like a european exotic.....Fararri or Lambo. We installed "Bassani X Pipe".....very exotic. :thumbs:

i'm with gkull. i'm going to get mine as close to the collector as possible
i do know the X or H needs to be before the mufflers :thumbs:

I have 3" mandrel bent duals with an X pipe, and the only place I could get it to fit was under the diff. Have had no problems with heat, but do run synthetic gear oil. The x pipes do give the exhaust a nasty sound at WOT! :cheers:

I like the way it cracks.....almost like an Indy car. :thumbs:
