THere has been alot of discussion on this - check stereos, etc in the archives.
I decided this weekend that I do not want the ultimate system - I just want a good system and there are many ways to achieve this. Otherwise I will never get my Vette back together.
I did see a box in Md America that looked decent - I will have to chekc the sizes, etc, but you can make a box similiar very inexpensively.Good luck - keep us posted

I made a shelf to fit on top of the wheel wells and placed them on it. I plan to add a amp between them.

You've just GOT to tell me exactly how you got the speakers to fit there, and if there's a template to use, please send it to me. I have 6x9's for my 72 waiting to figure a way to get them in there neatly.
That is a nice, clean looking install right there man, best I've seen.

Re: Rear speakers for my 73 (73 Vet)
Thanks guys, The speakers are Infinity. Here are some pics of the mounting board. It did take some time to mount them, but I wanted to use as little space as possible. I will try to find my template and post some dimensions. Craig

Re: Rear speakers for my 73 (CF6873)
I did the same 6x9 mounting for my 82 with CD player set-up.
I didnt get much bass out of them because the boxes are not sealed, so I added a Kenwood WooX powered subwoofer mounted to a 3/4 inch black carpeted plywood board on the backwall, in between the 6x9s. I still have plenty of room to store the T-Tops and the sound quality is a 1000X better. The plywood board serves to take the weight load of the sub and rests on the floor and is bolted through the backwall fiberglass.
My cardomain host wont let me add the pic (1MB) so I cant post it yet. I can e-mail it though to someone that will host it to post it.

Re: Rear speakers for my 73 (stingray72)
Here are some dimensions.
The front or thin end of the plate is attached with a metal plate that screws through the interior wall. The screws can be reached in the wheel well area beside the drain tube. At the rear I drill holes parallel to the length of the car through the plate and into the rear interior panel. Then I pushed in plastic wall anchors into the holes from the back end of the plate. Then I went under the car and screwed it to the rear panel. There are 2 screws on the front mounts and 2 on the rear. Let me know if you need more info.

If you can send an outline of it on paper - I will get it into cad and send it back to you for your distribution

Re: Rear speakers for my 73 (USNEOD)
I did something similar. Used 1x6 (with legs) and wedged it to the wheelwells.
Holds my speakers and fire extinguisher above the rear light and still lets my removable rear window sit on the wheelwells. :D
I painted the board to match the interior, but you never see it. It was trial and error, so no specs.

Re: Rear speakers for my 73 (USNEOD)
Here's a drawing of what I did. There is still enough room under the box to store tops. The rear window storage shelf doesn't drop down all the way, but it opens enough to get the window in and out.
