I'm ordering my carb and intake this weekend... Help me go over my shopping list!
This newbie is changing the intake and carb on my 76 L48. I'm going w/ the Edelbrock Performer EPS intake and Performer carb. I'm getting a new set of manifold bolts as well. There's a couple of things I don't know though...
1) Will the intake and carb come w/ appropriate gaskets, or will I need to get those seperately?
2) Edelbrock sells a "throttle/cruise control/and transmission kickdown mounting bracket" for their carb. Will I need this? I don't have cruise, BTW.
3) Are my part numbers right? Also, I'll probably go w/ Summit Racing.
4) Any tips, tricks, or words of wisdom before I get in there?
Anyway, here's the list so far:
Edelbrock 1406
EDL-2701 intake
SUM-G1573HS intake bolts
EDL-8036 throttle/cruise control/and transmission mounting bracket
FEL-MS90314-2 intake gasket
BTW, thanks all for all of your help and suggestions. Slowly but surely I'm piecemealing together a decent ride.

You will need to buy intake gaskets.
Get some RTV Blue silicone for the ends of the intake. Put down a nice fat bead of it. Don't use the gasket on the ends. (front or back) Also I always put a small bead of silicone underneath the gaskets arounf the water jackets.
Tighten the intake bolts in a circular pattern one side then the other from the middle bolts out.
The carb "might" come with a gasket...not sure.
Do not over tighten the carb ear bolts...they are easy to crack.

I guess this gasket would suffice?

I got the 1406 from Summit, and yes it does come with a gasket for mounting to the intake. It also came with a gasket for the air cleaner.

The real reason is: Some Moron 30+ years ago couldn't figure out how to put the replacement rubber or cork end pieces on. Because they have a slight jog in them and they can only go on one way. So of course they leakedoil all down the front of the motor and the rear bell housing. Well on his next Bubba motor repair he was allot smarter and threw the bad leaking gaskets in the garbage and just used RTV. He was so happy when it didn't leak that he told all his friends!
So now you know the true story!
I like to use a stud instead of a bolt in the dist. retainer.
Get a new thermostat
The manifold doesn't come with any heater hose adapter, vaccum fittings, or brass plugs. So plan on a trip to a parts store with your manifold in hand if you don't know the sizes you need.
Your also smarter to use a blocking gasket if your intake manifold has an exhaust cross over port. Keep the manifold cooler and it will run a little better.

Pay attentiion to the crossover section of the intake gasket. The gasket that came with the summit generic cam-changeout kit did not fit perfectly in the area of the crossover. I made it fit with a craft knife. Needless to say I was spewing blue smoke after it let go nr. the cross over.
I got a Felpro set next and have had no problems.

Use Edelbrock Gasgacinch to make the manifold gaskets tacky so that they don't shift when placing the manifold on the motor. It isn't absolutely neccessary, but it makes things easier. You might also want teflon tape or anti-sieze for fittings.

They squeeze out and cause massive oil leaks.

a lot of good advise here but i would also buy a 1/3" heat spacer...
i ran the same set up and the alum intake heat would boil my fuel in the carb...the spacer stopped that and my performance improved greatly...
i believe my spacer was made by Edelbrock...
