New starter bad!!
Well after less than a half dozen test fires in the garage, the new starter on the new ZZ4 took a crap!! Started making strange nioses the last time I fired it a couple days ago, just finished installing the new guages, fired it up, and shut down for a small problem , went to fire again, and the grinding noise turned into a free spinning starter. I think the interior gear ground out. I took it off and there are shavings on the inside of the starter neck!!
Any recomendations on a new small frame/high torque starter? Which is the best place to get one?
I bought this one new off of ebay!! Well after many years of ebaying it, I can say this is the first time I got burnt.

Re: New starter bad!! (garandfan)
Check out the yellow pages. I had my starter rebuilt at a local shop that specializes in rebuilding automotive starters & alternators. Cost me $80 CDN for the rebuild which included new high torque windings, new solenoid and a fresh paint job. Who knows you may only need a few bucks worth of work done to get your starter back in action...

Re: New starter bad!! (garandfan)
Had the same problem a few years back with a 66 GTO..rebuilt the engine and put it all back together and the starter did the same thing...After 3 starters (slow learner) I ran into a guy that told me about SHIMS...between the starter and the block....try adding a few and see if the teeth match up better, it might take a couple of trys but it finally worked.....!
