Need some power lock help on my 82
Just got an 82 and I cant seem to get the locks to work, they worked when I test drove the car, but wouldnt you know it, they dont now.
Here is what I know....
The drivers side pigtail that plugs into the switch was bad, so I replaced it. I also replaced the passengers side.
All of the fuses are good in the fuse panel.
There should be a relay somewhere on the car. I located one under the brake console, but it seems to be for the power antenna.
thats all I know, can anyone help?
also there is a high tech looking thing in the jack compartment? what does it operate?
And last, to hook it up to the computer, is it located under the ashtray?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont have the bucks to randomly start slinging new parts at it.
Thanks in advance.

Tough call. Time to trace wiring and voltages etc..
Get a used 82 Vette GM manual from Ebay for cheap. They have the best wiring diagrams and great troubleshooting flow charts.
Good Luck, Brent...

Thanks, I thought that was it, but not sure, not used to the newer cars.
Now If I could just get these door locks figured out!
Still looking for more suggestions. :D

If they are the same as an 80 I can help you later tonight when I get home. I have my interior out and am working on the wiring now.
I haven't messed with the p.l. since I only realized I had them 3 days ago. The previous owner removed the switches and tucked the pigtails in the doors.

No relay in the power window circuit according to my manual. Power comes straight from the 35 amp fuse in fuse panel to the switches when key is turned on. That circuit board you are talking about in the rear compartment is not related to the power windows at all. I looked it up one time but forgot what it was for.

I think the relay in the passenger trunk compartment is for the windshield wiper delay.
I recently had to replace my power door lock stuff. Replaced the switch, but it was really the harness. One of the wires, old and brittle, had broken off from the end connector. Replacement harness in $10 from ZIP. Just get one there and splice in. Extremely simple.

Power for the door locks comes from the courtesy clock circuit fuse 20 amp on the fuse panel. Which is a orange wire. I would check that fuse if its good then check the black ground wire on the passenger side lower door frame member. That wire also is the feed for the vanity light does it work/ Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. The vanity mirror is damaged, so it doesnt work. I will check the ground. Thanks again, I will post what I find, if I get it solved.
