Need inf. for 82 corvette fast please.
I am looking at this 82 corvette with 112,000k miles. two tone paint is fading , all interiors part need replace , body straight and no rust. car is running OK.
Asking price is $5,500.Is it only the collection edition had the open hatch and two tone paint? What do you guy think about the value and what should i look for in an 82 vette? I appreciate for any information.Thankyou very much.
What is your opinion to buy an 82 for daily driver? Thanks again :smash:

I think only the CE's were hatchbacks.

The number seems a tad high, but not that far out of line.

The first question you have to answer is what do you want to do with this car; drive it, modify if, restore it? Sounds like you want to make it a daily driver.
I bought my first '82 with over 120,000 miles on it for $5,700 back in 1997...I was also in CA, San Diego area. I kept it for five years and sold it for $7,500 with over 150K miles on it. I had way more than that in the car in both time and money. I learned a lot about Corvettes from that car though. It was a two-tone car as well and needed paint. I found that having a two-tone car re-painted is twice the fun and almost twice the price of a single color car. You are in luck though, the two-tone stripes have recently become available again through the aftermarket world. I recently bought another very low mileage two-tone '82 in great condition... I was better off buying another one than attempting to restore the one I had.
You ask what is the value, well, the '82s were fairly low production (just over 25K total compared to over 40K each year for the 80 and 81s) but they get a bad rap for the cross-fire motor. Personally I love mine. Very reliable, you can feel the torque in the seat of your pants (200 HP but 285 ft lb TQ) and will turn 22-23 MPG at highway speeds.
An '82 as a daily driver, well...that's up to you. I was back in Southern Cal this fall, no way would I drive mine daily out there. Traffic sucks but then you already know that!
And yes, only the collector cars had the lift back glass.
BTW, of the 25K some odd '82s made less than 6K got the two-tone paint. Four color options were available. What color is it? The White on Silver was the rarest of the two-tones, less than a thousand made. How original is it? Glass tops, Alum wheels?
Good luck, let us know if you have any other questions.

A very quick response - From what little information you gave the price doesn't sound bad at all. BUT - expect to put a lot of money into it - interior rebuild and paint is very expensive. No rust is good, look around the trailing arm links to the frame and windshield. Check the ride and brakes, suspension rebuilds can get expensive, see what the owner has replaced recently engine and suspension wise, verify with his work receipts (he does have receipts doesn't he?). See when the engine was rebuilt last.
1982's had the finnicky cross-fire injection and early 700R4's. May not be a problem, just something to be aware of.
My advice - look for a vette that is already a daily driver and has a maintanance history, even if you have to pay thousands more for it. Otherwise - I almost guarantee you will be putting thousands into that $5,500 car.
Collectors edition? Who cares. Not important for a daily driver and don't let the owner use that as an excuse to increase the value.

Re: Need inf. for 82 corvette fast please. (SpyderD)
Thankyou for fast responses .
It is a CE car with light brown two tones, allum. CE rims and lift back. Very original , but old and got nothing upgrade to it. I like the idea that 82 had 200HP and 285 TQ ,but also got 22-23 MPG . Base on the responses i think this car will add up fast it needs a paint job , all interior and suspensions work so maybe 5K plus my time. I should look for a better car.I like an 80-82 style , but rather nothing with computer so i might go for an 80. Thank again.
