I want to order a drop base air cleaner from Summit or Jegs for my 78 and need the part number of the one that will work with a Performer manifold and Edelbrock 600 carb. Someone must have this set-up with the K&N filter that will clear the hood! Thanks :chevy

I bought the drop base from summit and I have plenty of clearance. I am using a performer and a Lars Q-jet. E-mail me if you want pics.

I don't believe you need a drop base. I used the stock AC on my '76 with a Performer and the stock Q-Jet and had plenty of room. It is only when you go to a Performer RPM that you need a drop base.

With the Performer RPM, I went with a K&N drop base and a 14" open element.

I have a L-88 style drop base air cleaner on my vette. I am running a demon carb. I got the base off ebay.

My 71SB had a Carter AFB which I believe to be the same as the Edelbrock performer??? I needed to fit a 1.25 inch drop base for clearance with the stock SB hood and 3x14 inch filter. The problem is that it is fouled by the choke assy and the fuel inlet fitting,so it won't sit flush. I needed to remove the choke and purchase a 90 degree banjo fuel fitting(about $10 from NAPA) Edelbrock also supply the fitting for approx $20.

I have the same setup as you. I purchased a drop base base from summit and a 14" Mr Gasket chrome air cleaner from Advanced Auto.
I only used the filter and the chrome top along with the base I bought from summit. My hood closes with no problems. I have a 79.

I just put on a Weiand Stealth intake. With my stock QJET I definetely need a drop base. I was considering summit part number SUM-G3000. Its a 14" diameter X 3" filter height chrome drop baseair cleaner with no logo. Summit cost is $17.95.

I have the same set up on my 78 with K/N filter and filter top, and have about 3/4 inch room I used clay on the top to check the clearance.
