Default What is the best adhesive

I'm finally at the stage to bond my front end onto the car, (months of measurements, adjustments etc) I was just wondering what the best adhesive would be. I bought some "Vette Bond" when I bought the front end and have been using it like Bondo, I says it will work but someone also mentioned something called fiberglass panel adhesive. Any advice or tips would be appreciated, as I want to do this only once.
Thanks
Mick

:iagree:
I used the Evercoat Plastic Works panel adhesive to bond on both rear 1/4's and the tail light panel onto my 69 convertible a year or so ago and I have been very happy with the out come. No shrinkage at all with the product.

You might want to check out the bonding adhesive sold by the Corvette Image. I used it on my front clip install. Some of the Evercoat products say in the fine print say "not for larger panel bonding".

I used Evercoat Vette Panel Adhesive (870) to bond on the front clip.
It has been outside on the body dolly all winter, under a tarp.
Water and snow have accumulated somewhat, and the front end is still attached.

:iagree: Good stuff, just started doing the bodywork and I have been pleased with how well it fills and bonds and it is easy to work with.

Thanks for the input. Looks like The Evercoat is favored here, Do automotive paint stores carry it or is it more of a specialty item?

Yup. Automotive paint stores will carry it, if they carry the Evercoat brand.

BTW, the 870 is the correct bonding compound.

I bought it from Corvette Central when I bought the front end but I have been using it for small filler type repairs.

We use some stuff made by a company called Lord. It is two part and mixes through a special tip. My C5 has it all over it. It comes in different drying times and strengths. We bonded the hood scoop on my '61 five years ago, and there is not one crack, and it is the ONLY thing besides the paint holding it on. We buy it from our local automotive paint supplier.

Similar to the two part 3M adhesive stated above by viperjesse.
The only problem I have with these adhesives is the expensive caulking gun needed.
Other than spending close to $100 for the gun, they are superior products.

It would be nice if a good structural adhesive was available to the public. Years (many) ago, while building airplanes for Cessna, I worked with a one-part adhesive that was kept at -40F. Once it warmed up you had about ten minutes and it was solid. They used it instead of rivits in in many places and if it's good enough for airplanes ...

The 3M 8115 is readily available at many paint and body stores and 3M has now introduced a new economy gun. Their original gun was around $200 and is very hard to justify for a hobbiest. The new gun can be had for around $75 and sure makes application easy. Craig
