Q-Jet secondaries not opening
I have a quadrajet with a divorced choke, the secondary lockout is on the base of the carb. When my choke is completely open the secondary lockout lever still doesn't allow the secondaries to open, the choke coil still has to expand a little more before the lever will no longer keep the secondaries closed. Is this normal? Even when my car is hot the secondaries rarely open because of this.

You can adjust the linkage to retract the lockout lever earlier. You can also straighten out the choke rod coming from the divorced choke so that it forces the choke further open once hot.

Please excuse my ignorance but how is the linkage adjusted? I was looking at it and couldn't quite figure out what needs to be adjusted. I have a Rochester book and it doesn't appear to be listed in there either.

There are 2 adjustments you can make. First, you should have some adjustment in the choke rod coming out of the divorced choke. You adjust it by bending it. Bend it so that it wants to open the choke a tad farther when the engine is hot. There is also a tang that rests under the choke fast idle counterweight cam. The position of this arm can determine how quickly the lockout lever is released. You can bend the arm to affect the lockout retraction.

I already adjusted the choke lever, so I will try doing the other adjustment. Thanks for the help!
