Default Shifter console trim question

On a deluxe interior C3 the shifter console had a wood grained trim. Was this "real" wood, or was it vinyl-coated metal? Does anyone know who makes the best replacements for these? Got one replacement a few years ago and the vinyl is shrinking, exposing the metal plate. I'm thinking that the original factory trim was in fact real wood and not veneer. If so, I gotta find one!

The original was wood. I have a 70 with the deluxe interior and I think I am on my third one. Every single one did the same as yours. It is especially bad if it was a hot summer. I have seen one original NOS insert, but the condition was terrible. I am assuming that you have an early C3. I think they still have NOS ones for the later years.

I've got a 1970. Looking for a good original for a non-a/c car.

I see you are from pottsville. Stoudt's corvette has the NOS one. I looked at it and the repro looks better than the condition that one is in. I had heard from a friend that there is a guy who can make them. He posts on here and maybe he will see this and let you know. If not I will see if I can get a hold of him.
