Default high idle

My car idles fine when i start it up to let it warm up but after i am driving for a short time it will idle at 1500rpm i don't think it was throttle linkage sticking because yesterday i was comming up to a stop light and the rpm were coming down to a normal idle the all the sudden it went back up to 1500 and continued to idle there until i was done. Sometimes it'll stop when i shut the car off and restart it and sometimes it will come back. I think its vacum. WHat should i check to find the problem.

Do you have an '80 like your signature says? If so, is it like my '77 with just a carb, or is it one of those cross-fire thingys? I don't know for sure when they started that. If you have a carb, check for an idle selonoid on the driver's side of the carb. Unplug it and see if that stops it. If you have a cross-fire, you've got an IAC solenoid or TPS sensor promlem. Maybe.
