Default [San Antonio] Hills & Dales Classic Corvette Night

It's been a long, dark month here in South Texas. But the weather gods (www.weather.com) are suggesting we'll have decent skies this Tuesday night.

But no matter. We gather regardless. We gather to discuss Corvettes with Carburetors. We gather to praise them and to curse their quirks. We gather to discuss our restoration fantaisies...and to admit that duct tape is the most potent tool in our arsenals. But most of all we gather to

So all those who inhabit the environs of San Antonio and the Hill Country, mark your calendars for this upcoming Tuesday evening (after work) and be sure to join us at Hills & Dales Ice House, near the corner of Loop 1604 & Babcock (near UTSA) so that we may commiserate and, of course

I think I might actually make it this month. I put my DeWitts radiator in on Saturday so I actually have something new under the hood. Look forward to seeing everyone.

It looks to be a fine day for some a nice :auto: :steering: to Hills n' Dales for some cold  . I am ready for it as well, this month has been dark and dreary, not good for the leaky old C-3. See you all there!

I can't make it tonight--boy scout stuff again. Did take a nice long drive through the hill country out to Wimberely today that. Nice!

Well I had a good time but can I please say one thing? Ok I will, variety is the spice of life. Put your thinking caps on guys and lets look for another place. Sure I like it being just around the corner but its time for me to change. I will try to get a list of the places that have an icehouse license. I know we talked about it before but lets see what we can find.

How bout something a little more central so I can get to it easier? :D

It ain't an icehouse, but the Hooters on I35 is only thirty minutes or so from me.

Uh, Jeff, I don't know if you noticed, but I think somebody stole your engine.

Yeah, but Hooters is a place where we park our cars, and go inside. While somebody steals our cars. No problem with finding something centrally located, but it's supposed to be about the cars, not the Hooters girls....

Is Hills & Dales the only decent ice house remaining in south Texas?

Depends on whether "decent" includes the opportunity to be involved in or a witness to a shooting.

I'm pretty sure H&Ds is it as far as I know, plus it has ample parking and they seem to be accomodating.

It was a perfect Corvette night, wasn't it?

Yes it was! We talked cars for hours and hours, advice was given and received, and folks came whether their cars were running or not. And lots of non-Vette owners checked out our cars and gave us compliments.

There was also some entertaining graffiti regarding Corvettes and male virility written on the men's bathroom wall!

So I think we should keep the last Tuesday thing going at Hills & Dales...AND we can also do something else during the month! I'm completely open to suggestions -- and assistance. Believe it not, I invest a lot of time publicizing and preparing for Hills & Dales night, so I'd prefer to let somebody else handle organizing monthly event #2.

Bottom line: Let's keep Hills & Dales going...and add Hooters, or perhaps somewhere different, on a 2nd night each month. :yesnod:

I know of a couple of really nice ones, but they're not very close to you guys unfortunately. My favorite is Riley's on the Backbone, out in the hill country between Wimberley and Canyon Lake. Maybe we could do a run sometime.

You're right about Hooters, Page. Not really appropriate to our needs.

Any of you guys going to the TCA show in Boerne on April 17th? I know you've got issues with the TCA folks, Page, but it's a helluva car show.

Yes, I'll be there. I was hoping to have my Mustang ready in time to enter it, but that's looking fairly doubtful right now. So I'll have to enter the Vette, crackling paint and all.

We're trying to create a spirit of goodwill among the clubs. But in any case, this city is certainly big enough for two Corvette clubs. Choice is good! :yesnod:

Damn. No wonder I couldn't get it started last night. :jester

I think a new place is a good idea too. What about Specht's store waay out Blanco Road? Or maybe we could pick a Sonic to take over once a month (oops. No beer at Sonic). I'm sure there are some other places where we can consume a beverage and kick tires at the same time. Let us know what you find out, Mike.

Indeed, it was a classic night for the Vettes. I was unable to make the rounds as much as I would have liked but I had a newly tranplanted friend with me along with his Bostonian friend. He couldn't believe a place like Hills n' Dales existed...the beer selection, being able to take your beer outside into the parking lot, the cars. He seemed a bit overwhelmed by it all...in a good way.

Places like Hills n' Dales are far and few between unfortunately. Spechts and La Tuna are the only other two that immediately come to mind when I try and think of the typical Texas ice house. The parking is not as ample as Hills n' Dales at either of these either as I remember. But hey, I am game to try something different if that is the consensus of the crew...or I am happy to stay at Hills n' Dales too.
