Muncie shifter buzz/rattle
I know it's been talked about before... My shifter buzzes and rattles big time at speed above 70 I have tried stiffer springs softer springs, wrapped tape on the reverse lock out rod stuffed rubber shims in there but nothing seems to actually stop the buzz. The shifter assembly is almost perfect as for condition and there is no slop or loosenes in the linkage. I can hold the shifter and most of the noise goes away but not all. Any Ideas? ( please excuse the Muncie mis-spell in the topic.

I have this problem also. I actually switched out my stock shifter for a Hurst unit, but this did not get rid of the rattle. It gets pretty annoying so I think i am going to have to figure out what is going on soon and fix it.

Actually the Muncie set-up should be better in terms of rattle because it mounts so the body side of the rubber trans mount instead of the trans tailshaft (which transfers drive train vibes intothe shifter). I just did a search on the NCRS archive and someone had a suggestion for using an "0" ring and wrapping the O.D. of the shaft. I'll try that and post the results.

My 69 SB with Hurst Competion Plus shifter vibrates terribly when I hit 2500 rpm and above. After ruling out motor mounts (new last year), fly wheel, and clutch, we looked at the drive shaft and found the yoke /bearing badly worn. Replaced the worn U-joints on the drive shaft and the problem got worse (no doubt due to the new - no slop U joints). The next step is installation of the yoke and total rebuild of the extension housing. While we are at it, we will replace the original 69 vintage shifter mechanism (I know Hurst has a rebuild policy, but do not have the time to wait) and linkages (while I'm at it). I have my fingers crossed that this will solve the problem.

Re: Muncie shifter buzz/rattle (Burgundy 69)
My buzz and rattle at 70 mph went away with new motor mounts. It decreased some before that when I replaced bad water pump. Many things cause this problem. Bad harmonic balancer can do it.
