Default thought on custom headlight....NCRS beware

here is what i am thinking.

the home DEEEpot sells actual LEXAN...(if anyone knows of and downsides to lexan please chime in)
The lexan sheet should be fairly easy to fab into place...I can cut it down and put 3 tabs on it that bolt in from the underside....

for the headlights, could i grab and fixed system that i liked and that would fit and put behind the lexan...??

i believe it should be fairly easy to put in as long as i get the bracket that comes with the headlight I take off another car (i like the round styles like in a recent post...i can get a similar style of say a 300zx or something) and with the bracket bolt it to an aluminum bracket i fab to fit where the old pop ups go.....

IMHO I would think to even have a chance of it looking good the lexan would have to be flush mounted and to do this would be a PITA. You would have to use some failry thick stuff so that it didn't flex and my experience it that unless you are a patient person the thicker stuff is hard to get just perfect. The only fixed headlights I have seen that look good are GSC3's and the round one that have plexiglass blisters above them, and with these you can usually see all the mounting hardware :nonod:

that would acutally work, we were going to do the same thing after our headlights got mangled up, but decided that once we get the one piece front end we'll just mount the under where the grille is, like grandsportC3

I've worked with Lexan and acrylic, both will scratch very easy...
Good concept but I'd find another material....I believe a polycarbon plastic
would be more durable.

The automotive industry uses Lexan (trade name of GE Plastics polycarbonate) for headlamp lenses. But they have a special coating on them to prevent scratching and UV protection. I work with the the suppiers. Lexan by itself is not chemical resistent so you would need to be carful of how you cleaned them if you bought it from HD.
PS. I work with the company that is supplying the C6 lamps.

so by what your saying if i clean with simple green or another mild cleaner i should be fine, and not worry TOO much from scratching or problems from infrequent driving???

Pretty much. Besides that, for what you will pay for the Lexan at HD compared to what you would pay for them some where else, you could always make a spare set.
