one more cam question...
After all the information I've gotten this morning, I think it'll be easier to make my car a 350 hp clone (yes, I'm aware you couldn't get the 350 hp with an auto.). As Page mentioned, the L82 cam is the same as the '69 350 horse cam. As I recall, isn't there a Comp Cam that's very similar to the L82 cam?
Thanks-
Jeff

Crane sells a 350/350 cam, Jeff but unless you're having the car judged and the sound at ldle is important I'd have to ask why you'd bother? There are far better cams that will sound near stock and pull a lot harder than the factory cam, which is really a bit of a whimp.

Here are a couple of links to help you with Crane's version of the L-82 cam:

Ah, well if that's the case, he can get the factory grind still: http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...d=989&pid=1234
It's not a bad grind but with advances in asymetric lobes and such, you can do very similar numbers and pick up a bit more torque by making slight improvements that won't affect streetability.

thanks for the info Gerry. I suppose it's not as important. I'm not getting the car NCRS ready anyway, and with the chambered pipes, I'll never have an "OE" sound.
By asymetric lobes, are you referring to a dual-pattern cam? Bear with me, I'm still new to cam terminology.

That's what a lot of people think, Jeff, so you're in good company. This is a grind that has a fast opening ramp and a slow closing ramp. The idea is to get the valve open as fast as you can, hold it open, then close it slowly. This works very well when you want to keep the duration short to maintain good street maners. If you have the stock heads, don't bother going higher than .450 lift. The stockers are pretty much done on airflow a nick over .425. Again, the 350/350 cam is still pretty good but you can do a bit better with some careful shopping. Most important thing in aftermarket cams beyond duration is the lobe separation angle.
Forgot about those chambered pipes. Yeah, you're not going to win any Top Flights with that.

thanks for the explanation. I understand now what you meant. I'm planning to reuse the stock heads, but it's beginning to look like it might be more cost effective to put them on the shelf and buy a new set.
