Is cross over pipe needed in dual exhaust setup
I have a 71 SB with dual exhaust. I've read some posts and have wondered if a crossover pipe or H pipe would do anything for performance.
Oh SB is mostly stock.
Thanks for any input.

I don't have one now but will put one in when the time for a new exhaust is needed. I read in the posts that a gain in performance and smoother performance can be had with it.

I have had heated discussions on this :D
The bottomline is that it will probably give you a small increase on low end torque, gas mileage and possibly also a deeper exhaust note.
Both depending very much on how far the crossover is away from the header-collectors.

Smokey's book says H pipe will show positive and X pipe even more.

I have 2 questions.....................
1) Where would the X or H pipe go on a stock manifold, true dual '71??
2) How much (approx) does it cost???

The H-pipe usually ends up near the transmission tailshaft.
It's supposed to increase low end torque and have little to no effect on high end power. Basically "increases collector length".
It also reduces interior drown significantly. :)

PS The shop I go to charges ~$75. Probably up to 150, for an H-pipe. X-pipes have to be fabbed up and probably cost quite a bit more. They're better, though.

:iagree: My crossover significantly improved the low frequency harmonic and irritating resonance inside the cockpit at certain (1250-1400) rpm's. Sounds great now!
