Default Cost to rebuild heads

My 76 has a '72 350 block, but the bubba who owned it earlier put the '76 smog heads back on the block. I think that I have found a set of used heads from a '72 350. What would be the approx. cost to have them rebuilt. (They are not cracked) I don't want to do anything wild, I just want a nice driving car that can bark the tires when I want it to.

You'll spend more for a decent rebuild than to buy new. For what you are looking for, I'd go with a set of Vortecs. Assembled, with the manifold, and all the required fasteners, they are less than $800. You can purchase them from Scoggin Dickey.

They are great heads, 64 cc with a lot of modern technology the older heads don't have. The only caveat, is that with the base Vortecs, you can't run a radical cam. But you'll make real nice torque.

You might also consider WP S/R Torquers, 67 cc ,202/160 valves, bolt up to std manifolds and run around $750

I agree! By the time you have a shop install new valves, springs, retainers, seals, etc, MAYBE even having the guides redone (if worn) you will only be $100 or so away from new heads. I'm assuming you can't or won't be doing the work yourself.

If you do all the work yourself - like the teardown and cleanup of the old heads. Then take them in for guides only. Then you install new everything else, you might save $200-300 off the cost of new heads.

What about the Trick-Flow package deal offered by Summit? Seems to include just about everything you need.

A stock 350 head rebuild is about $220 + parts if needed.
