Default Another stupid question

Tonight the matching 68 rim will be dry enough to mount the F-70/15 tire for the spare. The arresting bolt that holds the spare tire carrier is sort of loose, or simply put threads nice and easy, maybe too easy, (I chased the threads)What's to prevent the bolt from backing out due to vibration and lowering my spare tire onto the frreway at 70mph?

There is supposed to be an adjustment plus a lock. If the not is very loose then get a new friction nut or just use some Loc-tite 242 (blue) I had one carrier bounce free once but I didn't have a tire in it. I think the weight of the tire would not allow it to bounce very much.

Lock-tite, now there's a great idea. I also agree that the force put on the bolt from the tire squezed into the carrier will hold the bolt but I'd feel more comfortable with the added lock-tite. Thanks.

Does the bolt wobble from side to side. It shouldn't. I think this bolt is 1/2-13 maybe? If it is too loose you could put a jam nut between the factory nut and the bracket so the bolt is secure and is still threaded in the original nut.

I think that my tap took too much meat out of the nut and it's looooooose!

Lock-tite or plain silicone, but doesn't the tire carrier and the tire snug up against the floor of the car? It does in my 79 and I put the lock on? Also is the bolt too long or is it the right one for your car?

Did you use a tap or chaser? Tap will eat at the threads much more than a chaser esp is the threads are partially/slightly stripped.
