Did i get carried away with these rod bolts???
Here is a picture of the rod I ground off a little to get it to clear the camshaft for a 383. All 8 rods are basically the same. Are they still strong enough or do I need new ones?

Your pics are out of focus but what I see does not affecttensile strength. My worry is are the rods within 2-4 grams of each other now????

:iagree: those rods are now all out of balance from each other, at 5,000 rpms that is one hell of a lot of vibration, and bearing failure, cracked crank, and so on

That should be OK as long as you know you need everthing balanced at a machine shop
What rods are those anyway ?

The rods are Eagle SIR 5.7".
Will it be any problem for the machine shop to balance? Is there a slight to great chance that they are going to break prematurely? :mad

You should be fine with those. The shoulders still look to be in tact. Like everyone else has said you need to get the assembly balanced. The machine shop will have no problems doing this. The weight is ground from the ends of the rods. They will take the lightest one and then match the others to it.

Did you have the rods in the motor and see a clearance problem ? Those rods I thought would clear the cam with 3.75" stroke crank ?

They may be out of balance with each other??Since all were ground about the same the balance still should be ok. It is a minor problem to touch up the couter weights on the cap to make up for the slight difference from rod to rod. You guys ever look at stock rods. One has a big weight the other has almost nothing.
Those rods will balance just fine and the grinding is minimal.
You will be fine.
