New True Duals installed
Smogged her yesterday for the last time! Whooo HOOOOOOOOOO
Today she went back on the muffler rack for new plumbing. No more CAT and no more extra bends here and there. No more EFE valve behind the right side header.
Now: True Duals thru the frame, bent around the suspension in the rear, and a crossover pipe right behind the trans. It looks like it was made by GM!
Pics to follow. I need to get her up in the air next time I drive it to work (friday?) then I'll have pics to show you all.
I kept the same Ultraflow mufflers but everything between the collectors in the headers, and the mufflers is new.

Are you running headers yet? Great performance mod.
Congrats on the duals and no more smog!

Re: New True Duals installed (SanDiegoPaul)
I want to do the same thing with my '80. How did you run the exhaust with regard to the Turbo 350 trans crossmember? Mine has an area on only one side for the original pipe to run through. Any alterations?

Put hedders on and see how easy that engine revs. When I had my 72, I had hedders, 2.5inch stainless, Flowmasters. My vette mechanic said he had never seen a stock 72 motor rev so quickly and easily.

Sure is a good feeling isn't it? I smogged mine for the last time a year ago and went right to the muffler shop. He wouldn't do it til I got my historic tags. Felt like a complete different car. It had the original cat on it, 25 years of crap in it. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

Re: New True Duals installed (surfolly)
crossmembers up to 79 had 2 holes in the crossmember for exhaust. ive had tru duals for 5 years now, but its not very performancey (i made a new word i know) being only 2" and still having manifolds.
i just got emissions on mine, so the smog pump came off and headers are next. :smash:

Surfolly,
On the '80, I believe everything has to be over on the passenger side due to a crossmember being in the way. For what its worth, on my origianl 1980, I just had my 2-1-2 original system with the cat turned into a true dual system for all of $80.00 bucks. I had a small shop close to my house cut out the section where the cat was with all the single pipe and had them run duals in that section. They used galvanized pipe did the custom bends and the whole 9 yards. What a difference it makes in the sound of the car. I am sure there is an improvement in performance as well but I drive my car like an old lady so I haven't really noticed. But the new sound sure is putting a smile on my face. This has been the best cash I have thrown at the Vette yet.

Oh, it has had headers on it since I put the engine in. I LOVE IT NOW!

My frame rail has holes in both sides for the pipe. 2.5" pipe fits nicely. The crossover pipe is directly behind the transmission. I'll post pics soon as I can.
