4.11 Gearset for a C3 - best type and good places to buy?
I am trying to help a friend source some 4.11's for his C3. The car is putting out some decent power so we are looking for a good set of gears for his car.
With C4 Corvettes, some gearsets are stronger than others, is the the case for C3's? If so, what is the best type?
Second part of the question: Where would you source the gears?
TIA

Where is the power limit for these "stock" gears? 500hp 550hp 600hp 650hp???

Thanks guys for the replies so far. Looks like I have alot of homework to do yet but hopefully some folks around here can get me started by pointing me in the right direction.
That is the sort of thing I was wondering about. Who offers these gearsets?
The car in question has around 500hp at the crank (not sure about torque though), the owner has had his fair share of tranny issues already and I would hate to see him go through the same thing with his diff. I am trying to help him look into options for going to a 4.11 setup (or similar) with as little trial and error as possible.
They do now make 4 series gears that fit a 3 series carrier without a spacer. It is a thicker ring gear.

I also have the series 4 with my 4.11 Richmond gear set. After 14 years and lots of different motor combinations in front of them the gears are still in great shape.
I would recommend getting the custom hardened yokes. Mine are also 14 years old and the original wimpy yokes were gone and trashed my rearend before the car had 50,000 miles

I have a set of Richmond 4.11 gears that I removed from my car last year but by the time I shipped them to Austaria the price would be rediculous.

I'm also looking to go to 4.11's soon. If I understand correctly, the 4.11's will work in the stock diff?

The series 3 carrier which is 3.73 or numerically lower gear sets requires a spacer.
I need a rebuildable core to put something like 2.73 rear gears in. maybe buy RedVettes and just sell your core

Thanks Gkull, but I won't be in the market for the gear swap until this summer, so Redvette's will probably be sold by then :smash:

I have the 4.11 gear set that fits the series three carrier I have the yukon gears. They are no louder than my 3.08's and they do not require a spacer. I know they are supposed to be as strong or stronger than the richmond gears, but they are more expensive. I have a friend with richmond gears and after riding in my car he wished he had went with Yukon. I ordered mine from Randy's ring and pinion18889055019.
