Buy a hood cable retainer (the little brass thing that goes on the end of the hood cable underhood). Carefully remove the end of the throttlle cable so the end doesn't fray. Adjust as necessary and tighten the screw on the retainer.

Wait!!! don't do anything until you re bend the bracket/rod under the dash .. It is very common on these early cars for the bracket/accelerator rod to bend over years of lead footing. Then you can't get full throttle. Just look under the dash an you will see that you can remove the bracket /rod and re bend it. It is a combination of both pieces dending. Some times you can do it still in the car. This is a very common thing and will most likely fix everything so you can set it up they correct way. I've had several cars that would only get about 3/4 throttle because of this condition

You may not have enough pedal travel to do that. You may get full throttle but then the return point may be wrong and the spring may bind the cable. With a bent rod the total travel is limited because the geometry is wrong. I had a 71 that gave me a ton of grief over that. Just trying to give a little info I have learned over the years of corvette ownership.

yeah that's why i think i'm gonna just cut the cable right by the carb. I can shorten it about an inch and still have full pedal travel...
