A couple pics of new exhaust and tubular crossmember. :)
I had a crossmember built with a driveshaft loop that would make plenty of room for a larger exhaust and give it a straight shot out the back. I originally wanted to dump to the side at the tire, but I would have ~2" of ground clearance. :nonod: So I ended up dumping it under the car.
It is LOUD and I need to move the exit about a foot further back as the interior is like a resonating chamber. When you get on it, it feels like it is literally pounding the ground.
I'll try to get a video made of a couple WOT runs as I work the bugs out of the new setup.
Thanks for looking!

 Nice set-up but looks race only. Kinda a CO hazard if stopped for long. No cross-over? Helps reduce noise (a little) but boosts power (a little) too.
I recall my '74 pipes make big turns to get out to the rear mufflers but how about exit behind the rear tires?

78 Vette Yes, they are the stock mounts.
cardo0 Well, this is a no-parade, no long idle car. Also the CO issues aren't there.
Legally exhaust has to exit behind the furthest back window opening.
I have had it sit in the garage with the back out the doors for prolonged periods while diagnosing some cooling problems. There are no exhaust smells in the car at all. This is a leisure car and will be seeing a lot of strip duty. I plan to run in the Pro ET brackets this spring/summer.
My previous exhaust had an X-pipe. This will help with midrange torque but this motor never sees less than 4500rpm under WOT.
No I would not recommend this setup for those who want to put around sipping their latte. :)
And are far as exiting behind the rear tires its a major squish to get 3" under the spring without ground clearance problems. I am going to extend the pipes ~1ft so they dump at the rear diff. This will help with interior resonance.
?

Didn't mean to choke your exhaust here but to make you aware of the hazard I felt I should say something.
If you were to get creative here a split into 2 pipes of 2&1/8" dia have the same are as a 3". Or even a flatened 3" pipe will still have 7 sq inches flow area.
Anyways nice cross member and thanks for the driveshaft loop/cross member combo idea. I may need one someday (but not very soon).

cardo0 Not at all. This definitely is not for "most." But I wanted to do a little experimenting and am happy with how it turned out. The exit will be moved back ~1-1.5 ft, primarily for resonance issues. After I have some baseline runs down I will most likely experiment with crossovers, stepped pipes, ect... For those looking for a truly intimidating sound, the Bullets do the job, but keep in mind they are not street legal. *wink*

Can you take a picture of where the collector connects to the headers? What collectors did you use? I'm going to be building a mandrel system and curious about correcting for the down pointing angle of my headers. Thanks..

Slick set-up VETDRMS!!
Now that I installed sidepipes.... I love the look of the rear with no exhaust or sparetire carrier!! If the sidepipes werent a gift, I would have love to have gone that route.... what kind of mufflers are they!?

Wondering if you would share how much clearance you have between the fiberglass floor and the top of the X-member? It looks like it angles up slightly as it heads inboard...
Thanks :seeya

how much was the crossmember? i love that idea. the tubular is probably a much better brace that a factory one (meaning better handling) a the incorporated driveshaft loop is an excellent idea too! :smash:
now youve got the gears in my head moving :D
