Well after a week I got the motor running ....but
From the last forum question I could not get the engine to fire, well today I had it running, it was the ignition switch, any thought on how to change it, are there special set ups or adjustments? Also after I got it running the headers got cherry red-- Is the timing too advanced or retarded?

Have you timed the eng? Also check to see if you dampner slipped. Running lean or having your timing retarded can cause high exhaust temps.

It was the timing I never really set it, just moved it till I got the thing running, so I timed it I have it at * degrees, is that a good start

Probably set the initial timing at 12 - 14 and see how it does.
My ZZ4 is running 18 degrees initial, which surprised even me.

Do you happen to know what it was at 2000 rpm's? Sometimes the adv weights will corrode and stick so you get no mech adv. You might also have been lean. Fresh engs do run hot during break in so it might be a few diff factors involved. I got my ram's horns glowing red doing break in so I shut it down and rejetted up a couple sizes with my holley, that seem to reduce it it alot. But once I was done breaking it in I found the inital timing was low so it was running hot from that. I retimed and it ran much cooler. BTW it will run hot also from jsut sitting there reving at 2000 rpm's with the normal air flow it would have if you where driving it at 2000 rpm's on the road.

thanks when I gradually dropped it to 1500 rpms it cooled dow, so between the timing and sitting still that may have been the problem
