Default Met a ZO6 0wner today

I was in my 81 ZZ430 today at the gas pump when he pulled up next to me. He looked to be about my age. I started talking to him and he said he was from Virginia to watch his son play in a golf tournament here.He was a pretty nice guy and we started talking about his car. He then asked me what year mine was and he saw the ZZ430 emblems I put on the sides above the side louvers. He asked "what's a ZZ430", so I explained about how it was a GM ZZ4 crate engine upgraded with GM parts ,etc., blah, blah....... He didn't know what the hell I was talking about! He knew nothing about crate engines and didn't seem to know anything about corvettes in general except his ZO6. One of these days he's liable to get his doors blown off by one of these crate engines he knows nothing about. :D

A guy with a Corvette. Not a Corvette guy. Many C5 owners like that. You get a blank stare when you start talking about the car. He probably has not even opened the hood on it.

From what I've seen thats the typical profile of a C5 owner a few are very knowledgeable. I'm glad they're out there but you can't tell them apart by sight. I get more waves from the Harley crowd and truckers than these guys.

I love these guys, if it weren't for them C5's wouldn't be a dime a dozen and with them flooding the market I will be able to buy a C5 vert sooner to keep the C3 vert company. :D

A local Chevy dealer is selling new C5 for $38,900. The C5 will soon be just another old Corvette to most.

Hey, don't lump us all together. I have done a complete frame off resto in my garage on my '72 and rebuilt the 454 motor myself. I have also helped a friend of mine install a ZZ4 crate in his '84 Vette. And I love my Z06! But I do agree some C5 owners are stuck up. :mad

Save the wave :seeya

It seems to be a fact of life- to get a good running, reliable Corvette, the easiest way is to drive over to your Chevy dealer and buy a new one.

The highest population of "Corvette guys" vs "guys with Corvettes" are the ones who own old ones. Not necessarily saying new Corvette guys are inherently bad, it's just a fact of life. It takes a certain level of enthusiasm to maintain one of our older cars. I know that I get frustrated a lot- if I bought a new car that frustrated me as much as this one does at times, someone would have a lawsuit on their hands. :)

But I still love it!

Well said! I have a leaky Holley 4160 and will not seek a Z06 owner for advice. But quite frankly, they look for a fast and trouble-free vehicle. I cannot criticize that. Chacun son gout!

[QUOTE]Hey, don't lump us all together.

I'm not. Actually this guy was friendly, I just don't think he was interested in older vettes. I have a good friend that owns a ZO6 and he knows more about corvettes 53-up than I ever will. He is going to help me install a ROD 6 in mine shortly, so he must be a good guy. :)

Many suck, but not all. The other day I was getting on the freeway and way down on the opposite ramp was a C5 I almost couldn't see, and I saw an arm rise out and make and effort to wave to me, so of course I did the same. A few minutes later I passed an oncoming C1. We were plain as day to one another. I waved. He blew me off. C1 snob blowing off the insignificant '79? Who knows, but sucky Corvette owners come along driving all generations.

I once pulled up somewhere and this (typical, older, retired) C5 guy was sitting there and when I walked out he said "Nice Vette! What year?" I replied " An '83" he says "COOL". :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: I do that all the time to those guys. They ask me "Hey what got in there?" "In where?" "Not groceries"

I'm a sarcastic ****, ask SIGNGUY !! :jester

I used to think it was only C5 owners that didn't wave. But I've had several C3 & C4 owners ignore me when I am in the C5.

Most of the Vette owners out there aren't Vette guys and probably not even a car guy . . .

Or aren't looking. I've noticed the C5 drivers around here waving more and more often. Sometimes they don't even look though.

I've been blown off by C3s, but they for the most part seem to be pretty cool. C4s I think I have the worst luck with.

I agree, there are some lame C5 owners... but you know what? I bet when the C3s were new, there were some really lame C3 owners as well.

So as another said... please do not lump us all together. ;)

And as far as getting his doors blown off... I seriously doubt a ZZ430 in a C3 will outrun a bone stock Z06; not in the 1/4 mile and not top-end. Unless a ZZ430 makes 360+ rear wheel HP (which I doubt) and propels a C3 to low, low 12s, which is what a Z06 runs in stock form. :)

Okay devil's advocate here but how many of you rather work on the car rather than driving it? It's all about prefrences. I'm on my third Vette and soemtimes I question the logic about all the time I spend in the garage. I might have gotten my real estate licence by now and have 3 Vettes completely done sitting in the garage instead of one tired 68. Maybe they rather be at the beach sipping on a cool one watching the hotties go by than all sweaty in the garage by yourself. Again it's priorities. many could care less about the mechanics as long as it does what it's supposed to do and if it doesn't it's time to trade up. You can't knock them for that.

Good point. Just turn the key and drive. That's why I have a daily driver.

You're going to run into people like that no matter what year Vette they drive. I probably don't get waves from C4 owners the most, but the biggest corvette butt I know drives a C1, he thinks he's God's gift to cars. :mad Most of the C5er's I know aren't cocky, they just don't know much about cars and want what they consider to be a cool car and comfortable to drive. There just happens to be lots of them, too.

Why not? Mine has 25 more horses than his! ;) :jester Actually I meant there are bigger and more powerful "crate " engines that could take him. :)
